02/04/2021 Eugene Rowland Grogan was the son of Michael and Catherine Grogan. Michael Grogan and Catherine O'Beirne were married on 26th December 1881 at Bekan Parish, County Mayo.
02/04/2021 Michael Grogan was a sergeant in the Royal Irish Constabulary and as a consequence, the family moved around a lot.

02/04/2021 The 1911 census does not list Rowland as living with the family at house 24 in Springfield Road, Belfast. His mother had died and his father had retired.
02/04/2021 The 1911 census records an R Grogan living in Army Barracks in Dundalk, County Louth. He was 20 years old and hailed from County Tyrone. He was unmarried and worked as grocer’s assistant.
02/04/2021 Roland Grogan married Fanny Lynch about 1913. No record of this can be found on GRONI, so he may have been married elsewhere.

02/04/2021 Corporal Roland Grogan arrived in France with the Royal Field Artillery on 19th August 1914.
02/04/2021 Sergeant Rowland Grogan was awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). It was listed in the London Gazette on 19th January 1917. Supplement: 29912 Page: 832. It is not known what the Military Medal was awarded for.
02/04/2021 Rowland Grogan was born in Coalisland, County Tyrone on 2nd November 1893. He was one of about 15 children.

30/12/2015 Sergeant Roland Grogan was serving with "D" Battery of the 83rd Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery when he was killed in action in France on the 17th October 1917.
