The 1911 census shows Joseph as 15. He is still at school. He was still living with the family at Carricklongfield, Ballymagran, Tyrone.
Joseph Stevenson was a shop assistant in the employment of Messrs. R Richardson Ltd, Dungannon.
Joseph was a member of Dungannon Total Abstinence L.O.L. 1229.
Joseph Stevenson enlisted in Dungannon with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

1916
Private Stevenson received a slight shrapnel wound in the hand during the advance at the Battle of the Somme in July 1916..
From the Tyrone Courier dated 20 July 1916:
Private Joseph Stevenson, formerly a shop assistant to Messrs. R Richardson Ltd, Dungannon, received a slight shrapnel wound in the hand during the advance.
From the Mid Ulster Mail dated Saturday 22 July 1916:
Private Joseph Stevenson, Tyrone Volunteers, formerly a shop assistant to Messrs R Richardson Limited, Dungannon, received a slight shrapnel wound in the hand during the advance on 1st July.
1917
Private Joseph Stevenson was killed in action in Belgium on 7th June 1917 at the Battle of Messines.
From the Tyrone Courier dated Thursday 21 June 1917:
Private Joseph Stevenson, Inniskilling Fusiliers, killed on 7th June 1917, was a native of Brantry and had been shop assistant in the employment of Messrs R Richardson Ltd., Dungannon Total Abstinence L.O.L. 1229.
Memorials
Private Stevenson is buried in Wytschaete Military Cemetery in Belgium. His inscription reads: BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHICH DIE IN THE LORD
Private Joseph Stevenson is commemorated locally on Dungannon War Memorial and on the WWI Roll of Honour in St Anne's Church Of Ireland in Dungannon.
Private Joseph Stevenson is also commemorated locally on the WWI Roll of Honour plaque in Brantry Church of Ireland
The CWGC lists Joseph as the son of Robert and Maggie Stevenson of Carricklongfield, Carnteel, Aughnacloy, County Tyrone.
