Denis Crumley enlisted three times during the course of the war. Two of those enlistments ran concurrently, serving with both the Royal Irish Fusiliers and the Royal Engineers at the same time. He is listed on Dungannon War Memorial. Denis Crumley survived the war.
Further Information
The 1911 census records that Denis Crumley was 23 years old, single and born in Co Tyrone. Prior to enlisting he had worked as a Tinsmith. Denis had a brother called Francis, aged 21 years, who also worked as a Tinsmith. Both are listed as visitors and lived with, James and Rose Fox, Derryadd, Tartaraghan, Co Armagh.
On the 14 August 1914, Denis Crumley, aged 27 years and from Lurgan, Co Armagh, birthplace, Shankill, Lurgan, Co Armagh enlisted at Belfast and joined the Royal Irish Rifles as a Private, service number 10483.
He was discharged from this regiment on the 7 October 1914.
On the 6 April 1915, Denis Crumley used the name John Crummie to join the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He gave his age as 28, occupation as a Blacksmith with an address, Keenan Corner, near Portadown. He enlisted with the Royal Irish Fusiliers as a Private, service number, 18497.
He was discharged from this regiment on the 28 July 1919.
Whilst Denis Crumley (John Crummie) was serving with the Royal Irish Fusiliers he enlisted with the Royal Engineers using the name, Denis Crumley on the 24 July 1919 as a Private, service number, 614644.
He was discharged from the Royal Engineers on the 20 August 1919.
He is not recorded as CWGC War Dead.
Denis Crumley name is commemorated on the war memorial in Dungannon as having served with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. It is not known why is name is recorded on the war memorial
