William Garnett Wolsley Irwin was the son of Charleton and Margaret Irwin. He was born about 1997 in Dungannon. The family lived at William Street, Dungannon. William’s father is a linen lapper. His mother is a dressmaker. William G. W. Irwin was educated at the Royal School Dungannon. William Irwin enlisted at Dungannon, County Tyrone. William served as Lance Corporal in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons (Service Squadron) Service No. UD/83, and also with the 2nd Regiment North Irish Horse. Sergeant William Garnett Wolsley Irwin was with 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers, 'A' Company, when he was died of wounds on 26 August 1918, aged 22.
The village of Arneke is approximately 50 Kms south-east of Calais and about 8 Kms north-west of the town of Cassel. Leave the village of Arneke on the D11 heading north. After 1.3 Kms turn right at the crossroads. The Cemetery is 500 metres on the right hand side.
