David Allen was the son of William and Sarah Allen. David was born in Minterburn on 6th June 1894. He was one of ten children. William Allen was a caretaker and gamekeeper and then a farmer. Private David Allen was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he died of wounds on 2nd October 1917 in France.

David Allen was second youngest son of William and Sarah Allen. William Allen and Sarah Rodgers were married on 26th April 1877 in the district of Armagh.
David Allen was born in Minterburn, County Tyrone on 6th June 1894. He was the second youngest of ten children, all born in the Caledon area.

The 1901 census records the family living in Ballagh, Caledon, County Tyrone, which is near Minterburn. David’s father William Allen was a caretaker and gamekeeper. David was five years old.
The 1911 census shows the family still lived in Ballagh, Caledon. William was a farmer. David Allen was 15 years old and is still at school.
By August 1917, the family had moved to Emyvale, Mullan, Co Monaghan. It is suspected that his father had died by that time.

Private David Allen was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he died of wounds in France on Tuesday 2nd October 1917 in France.
